Park Hyatt Beijing Review

Our private car pulled up to the Park Hyatt Beijing and we were greeted like royalty with a row of the service crew and managers bowing upon our arrival.  Walking out of the elevator into the main lobby you cannot help but be impressed with their art and feeling like you are on top of the world looking down to every other building in the skyline.

The Rooms

The rooms at the Park Hyatt Beijing has a powerful, classy feel.  It has a masculine, contemporary design with traditional accents of ancient looking art.  The main living area of the suite has a desk and spacious sitting area facing a flat screen TV.  The bedroom features a comfortable king size bed and a flat screen TV and located behind the bedroom is the bathroom.  The bathroom’s here are amongst the largest I’ve seen with double sinks and a large soaking tub next to a rain shower.  However, the closet space is quite small and only big enough to hold not more than a week of clothing. Each room has floor to ceiling picture windows that look out over the other skyscrapers that may be closed for your privacy.

The Facilities

All the facilities are a convenient elevator ride away.  The gym is located on the top floor with brand new state of the art equipment and a full service spa & salon featuring Chinese medicine techniques along with modern treatments.  The lower levels of the Yintai Centre building is full of huge multi-level stores of premier brands and in the lower ground levels is a complex of shopping, cafes, and the Park Hyatt’s IFW with great peking duck & Taiwanese noodle soup.

The Food

Every morning China Grill is transformed into a breakfast buffet featuring Beijing style delicacies and even dim sum.  A western style breakfast is offered as well.  At night, China Grill opens up again for an upscale dinner option of prime steaks and seafood dishes with amazing 360 degree views of the city.  However, we enjoyed eating at the more affordable IFW restaurant located on the lower ground level.  The Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup was so good we had to eat there twice and who doesn’t love peking duck?

The Location

The Park Hyatt Beijing is centrally located business district on the top of the prestigious Yintai Centre above a shopping complex of premier brands and metro underground.  Being at this hotel automatically gives some deal of respect as people refer to it as one of the most luxurious places to stay in Beijing.   Also, local sightseeing attractions are a short taxi ride away such as the the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.  There are many means of transportation like subway and taxi, but we choose to hire a private car to take us around.

The Service

We experienced great service continued throughout our stay but what stood out was the employees’ attention to detail.  It was really remarkable how they were fully staffed yet we were always greeted by our names even by those we have never seen before.  The service at the Park Hyatt Beijing was quick and to the point.  Quite in contrast to the long interactions with the hotel employees in Japan who try to make sure they understand everything, the Chinese are straight forward and try to get you what you want as quickly as possible although they do make mistakes often due to misunderstandings, yet they don’t waste your time and I appreciate that.

Recommendations

• During rush hour, it can take the hotel an hour to find a taxi.  Be sure to leave extra early for your dinner reservation.
• Bring Cipro in case of food sickness.  The hotel can arrange prescription medications if you start to feel sick.
